HPSN or National Waste Awareness Day is commemorated every year in February to commemorate the tragedy of the avalanche at Leuwigajah landfill in 2005. This commemoration is filled with many activities to raise awareness in managing and reducing waste.
For example, the village of SIBA KLASIK, which is known as the icon of the waste independence area, has been managing household-scale waste so that it does not burden the landfill.
As a sense of concern for the community, right on the celebration of HPSN 2025 they launched the first Zero Waste Tour in Gresik district. This time in collaboration with PIKK (Persatuan Istri Karyawan Karyawati) PLN UPT Gresik Thursday (20/2).
On the first tour they visited the waste-free area in the SIBA KLASIK village in Sidokumpul village RT.02 RW.05. Here they learned the concept of handling waste at the RT / RW scale, making Eco Enzymes, composting education, Green Economy Model Refill Store and waste workshops.
Mrs Tiana Yudha, a PIKK member from Sidoarjo district, said that this was her first time doing this kind of activity.
‘In this series of tours, one of which is in the SIBA KLASIK village, I really received a lot of waste management lessons, the food packaging is wrapped in banana leaves and really reduces disposable plastics,’ she said.
Not only that, they also had the opportunity to learn how to make soap from Eco Enzym multipurpose liquid with World Eco Enzym Volunteers (RDEE) Gresik. After completing the visit to SIBA KLASIK, participants continued their journey to Ngipik Gresik landfill.
Saifudin Efendi, coordinator of the Zero Waste Tour, explained that this activity could stimulus the economy.
‘We have to develop this Zero Waste Tour concept in Gresik district because the impact of this activity can trigger the green economy of Green Business from guests who visit then many sectors are affected such as food catering, refill shops, environmental practitioners, and city tourism. As well as the most important impact, it can raise public awareness of the importance of managing and reducing waste, ‘he stressed.
The man who is familiarly called Ipung added that this tour is cheap.
‘Zero Waste Tour is cheap, we conceptualise all the needs in organising this as efficiently as possible, starting from sufficient food with banana leaf containers, drinks that we produce ourselves such as telang, as well as supporting tools for zero waste and we don’t need to buy containers anymore. Also in collaboration with the Gresik Regency Tourism and Culture Office for the Bandar Grissee tour bus service which is only Rp.5.000.
The tour ended by enjoying the afternoon on the Bandar Grissee tour bus. Here they can learn historical buildings/sites in Gresik such as the Bandar Grissee trading area, Gresik harbour, picinan village, Arabic village and many more.
