Help ECOTON Build Indonesia’s First Mobile Microplastic Laboratory

Microplastics are everywhere. They have been found in rivers, oceans, drinking water, food, the air we breathe, and even inside the human body. Despite their growing presence, many people are still unaware of what microplastics are, where they come from, and how they threaten both ecosystems and human health.

ECOTON is launching Indonesia’s first Mobile Microplastic Laboratory to bring science directly to communities, schools, universities, and public spaces. Instead of waiting for people to visit a laboratory, we will bring the laboratory to them—making microplastic research accessible, engaging, and easy to understand.

The Mobile Microplastic Laboratory has three main missions:

• Introduce communities to the different types of microplastics found in the water, air, plants, and environments where they live.
• Raise awareness about the impacts of microplastics on biodiversity, ecosystems, and human health through scientific evidence and interactive demonstrations.
• Promote practical lifestyles that reduce microplastic exposure, empowering individuals and families to make safer, more sustainable choices every day.

The laboratory will be equipped with:

• A stereo microscope for identifying different types of microplastics collected from water, air, vegetation, and even human skin.
• Water and air quality testing equipment to help communities better understand their local environment.
• Microplastic sampling and testing instruments for hands-on demonstrations and scientific education.
• Educational materials, including posters, books, leaflets, and videos that explain the sources, impacts, and solutions to microplastic pollution.
